During challenging times like these, most people seem to have more difficulties to feel peaceful and calm. We have no clue on how to stay in balance. Because our daily routine gets turned upside down, and we feel like we lost all sense of direction.

Life seems to stand still for a while.

A lot is going on in the world right now. We have to process all the recent events and information that is thrown at us. When challenges arise in our lives, it is super important to have a go-to ritual. A daily routine to make sure you have a lifeline to hold on to. That will make you feel safe, and it relaxes your body and mind.

My three favorite things

Even though I have practiced a daily self-care routine for more than a decade, I have switched things up a lot. I have had many habits in the past, but I have three favorite things I do all day every day without any exception.

There are, of course, more habits that I practice daily. Hence, I have a tool chest full of self-development tools I practice daily. But the ones I explain in this article are non-negotiable to me. No matter what happens or how busy my schedule gets. I make sure to get them done every day, even when the world comes crashing down.

Three essential habits to stay in balance

These three daily habits are as essential to me as eating and sleeping, if not more. I can’t live without them. So make sure you stick with me and read the article all the way through so you can take advantage of them too!

Meditation

Meditating is the first thing I do when I get up in the morning, and the last thing I do before I go to sleep. It brings tremendous benefits to body mind and spirit, and it is super easy and pleasant to do.howtostayinbalancemeditation

You can do this in bed, on the couch, or sitting at your desk before you start your workday. Or you can even practice moving meditation while you do yoga or go for a walk.

It is also perfect for people who are very short on time because it can be done in five minutes. You can do this in your bed in the morning right before you get up, instead of snoozing. And do this at night to help you fall asleep.

It is an easy and effortless way to release stress and to relax your body. You can focus on your breathing (deep-belly breaths), you can focus on a candle flame in front of you, or you can repeat a word in your head as a mantra. I choose words like peace, abundance, kindness, success, prosperity, and so on. But you can choose what suits you best. If you don’t like to meditate in silence, you can listen to some music or search for a guided mediation on YouTube.

Release and forgive

When stress and negative energy build up in your body during the day, it is no wonder that you can’t sleep at night. Those stressful feelings invade your cells and can make you feel exhausted, sad, and even depressed. Accumulated stress also weakens your immune system, and if it is never released, it can even lead to physical ailments and pain.

The same goes for bad dreams and sleepless nights. If your alarm clock rings in the morning and you didn’t sleep very well, or you had a nightmare, the chances are that you start your day feeling lousy and tired. That is why you have to release this stressful night first thing in the morning, to prevent you from starting your day badly.

Every night, you should reserve five minutes to release problems, annoyances, fears, arguments, and other unfortunate circumstances you encountered that day. Forgive yourself and others. That will create some peace of mind for yourself.

When you open your eyes in the morning, you can do the same to release any bad dreams, brooding thoughts or tossing and turning for hours on end. Release all this pend up stress and negativity, forgive your snoring partner for being the cause of your sleepless night.

You can even forgive your pets for their nocturnal escapades that kept you awake. I have a cat, for example, who thinks it is perfectly fine to wake me up in the middle of the night to add some extra cat food to her already half-full food bowl. 🙂 So whoever you need to forgive in the morning or whatever you need to release, make sure you do it. Because it will make sure you can start your day with a fresh and positive perspective.  And a good start is half the battle!

Gratitude

If there is any technique out there that brings miracles in your life, it is gratitude. Gratitude is the great magnifier that turns you into a miracle magnet. The more you are thankful for, the more you will receive to be grateful for.

You have surely heard of the Oprah Winfrey Quote: “What you focus on expands, and when you focus on the goodness in your life, you create more of it.” This quote explains that it is crucial to focus on positive things because whatever you focus on will grow. This is due to the law of attraction.

So make sure to focus on things you are grateful for in your life daily. That is essential to make sure you feel good under any circumstance. No matter what is happening in your life, you have always, ALWAYS, something to be thankful for. Even if it is just for WIFI because if it wasn’t for WIFI, you weren’t able to read positive information like this. Or likewise, if it is only for the roof over your head, or the air in your lungs. You can always find something to be thankful for. There is no doubt about that!

gratefullnessSo start small, set your timer for one minute, and during this minute, try to find a few things you are thankful for and hone in on the feeling of gratitude while doing this. If you have gotten used to doing this daily, you can switch things up by writing down three things every morning you are thankful for. Or you can follow my example and begin your gratitude journal. Buy a beautiful notebook, and every day, write about ten things you are grateful for.
